  Newcomers have 30 days after establishing permanent residence to change their out-of-state license to a Tennessee license. If you have a valid license from another state, a vision test is all that is required. For a first-time license, you must have a certified birth certificate and pass a written law exam, a vision test and a road test. Applicants under the age of 18 must also have their school attendance verification form from their principal's office and must be accompanied by a parent of legal guardian. Testing offices are open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 7:30a.m. to 6:00p.m. No testing after 4:30p.m.

  New residents must be 18 years of age by the time of the next election and must have been a resident of Tennessee for at least 20 days. Registration books close 29 days prior to any election.
